Party Poker customers from Russia and Moldova were left in shock following emails they received last week from the company confirming that they are withdrawing from those markets, leaving players having to find alternative online poker rooms.
PartyPoker who’s parent company is called Entain, also exited; Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
Colette Stewart, partypoker’s Twitch and community manager has confirmed the news to members of their Discord customer service channel, writing, “It’s correct we are removing services from various locations due to regulatory issues.”
This will no doubt have an immediate effect on the size of the player pool and liquidity on the PartyPoker platform, as Russia represents a large chunk of players.
This is part of Entain’s business plan, like many other operators, to exit from gray markets, and focus on legal, regulated markets. Entain, like many other big online players are looking to the USA for new opportunities for online poker, casino and sports betting as licences are given out for certain US states.
