Mike Sexton (pictured above), the poker hall of famer & legendary poker commentator sadly passed away from cancer aged 72. Mike was one of the most likeable and recognisable faces in the poker world after fronting the world poker tour for 15 years. He stepped down from this role in 2017 to be the chairman of PartyPoker, the company he help founded in 2001. The WPT had a special event on the 22nd September which would have been his 73rd birthday, where friends and fellow poker players celebrated and remembered his life. Another loss to the poker community was the passing of amateur player; Darvin Moon, who sadly died at the age of 56 on the 19th September following surgery. Darvin will be remembered for winning a satellite to the main event in 2009 and being runner up.
8th September
BetVictor will be the new main shirt sponsor for Fulham this coming season. They have agreed a 2 year deal. The BetVictor CEO Andreas Meinrad said about the deal “The Premier League always provides compelling drama. We know how much football means to our customers and we share their enthusiasm for the beautiful game. It’s all eyes on Craven Cottage for Saturday’s big kick-off.”
25th September
Scots Gambler Terry Allan is suing Ladbrokes for £3.3 Million. Mr Allan gambled up to £400,000 a week between 2014 to 2018 with an Aberdeen branch having a direct line to the branch. Mr Allan has said he was in Spain at the time of the bets, so were not lawful. Ladbrokes say they are going to defend the case “vigorously”.
30th September
William Hill accepted an offer of £2.9 Billion ($3.7 Billion) from Caesars Entertainment Inc for the entire business. Although other bidders were interested, including Apollo Global Management Inc, Caesars looks like it is in control to take over the UK based business. Caesars already works alongside William Hill, having a 20% stake in a joint venture and Caesars see this as a potentially lucrative deal to expand in the US. Caesars, have already confirmed they wish to dispose of the European side of the business as this is not their key market. 888 and Betfred have already confirmed an interest in the European operations and assets.
